The primary aim of this study is to determine the proportion of 3- and 4-year-old children sampled in participating countries who meet the WHO Global Guidelines for physical activity, sedentary, and sleep behavior for the early years. In addition, this study aims to determine if these proportions differ by sex, socioeconomic status, or urban/rural location between different levels of human and economic development.
Secondary aims include the monitoring of the prevalence of overweight and obesity in countries where no data currently exist and the monitoring of developmental delay in gross and fine motor skills. The Project will commence as an international cross-sectional study. Countries have been recruited from each of the four levels of the United Nations HDI (Low, Middle, High, Very High). Kenya has been selected to participate and the study will be carried out by Wellness for Greatness Kenya.
