Diabetes in Schools

The rise in the burden of diabetes is associated with demographic and social changes such as globalization, urbanization, aging population, and adoption of unhealthy lifestyles including unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption. Diabetes has become a growing problem in developing countries, an increase driven largely by a rise in obesity.

The main objectives of this project are to:

  1. Promote interest in the causes, prevention and management of diabetes;
  2. Assist learners with diabetes in managing their condition, especially on what foods to eat, how much and how often to eat;
  3. Educate learners on the importance and precautions of physical activities on their health;
  4. Introduce diabetes education in schools.
