The Kenya National Curriculum Policy and the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) ensures that all learners acquire competencies and qualifications to promote national values, inspire individual innovation, nurture life-long learning and provide opportunities for learners to realize their full potential.
Wellness for Greatness Kenya (W4G) is in the process of developing a 60 minutes daily physical activity handbook aligned with the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo) and other animals found in Kenya for children between the age of 4 to 14 years old to promote physical health and wildlife conservation.
The purpose of the handbook is twofold:
- To motivate the children to participate in exercise activities that are fun and creative;
- To engender a love of animals in their local community or region with the goal of increasing awareness and actions to preserve and protect the animal population.
The key points of the handbook include:
- Over 500 freelance exercises adapted from animal behaviors and traits;
- Movement classified by different exercise-focus groups that will be represented by the ‘Big Five;’
- Images and illustrations of exercises, wildlife, national parks and reserves etc.;
- Sections that promote healthy diets.
